Cupcakes And Art
This last weekend was pretty darn amazing. I made cupcakes for two very different but equally fantastic art events. The first was Friday night celebrating the second anniversary of Vanity On Mill and the incredible artist opening for local Arizona artist Jared Aubel.
Here are some photos from that event:

Then on Saturday I was off to Modified Arts in Phoenix for phICA's inagural event with Brazilian artist Laerte Ramos. After the event Ted Decker from phICA and Kim Larkin from Modified Arts were kind enough to have Timmy and I out for drinks and tasty hors d'oeuvres, as Kim is Vegan also we were able to nosh on some tasty foods. We got a chance to hang with Laerte and learn about his life in Brazil and what things are to come from this extremely talented artist.

This Sunday
As you folks know just from looking at my "Books I Am Reading" list I am an avid reader. I like to tell people I have just met that I devour books like candy, because I really, really love candy. You will also notice by looking at this list that this year I have read twenty-four books so far this year and among those books is a memoir, one so poignant that I read it in one day. This book made me cry, a lot but it also made me laugh so hard I almost wee'd in my knickers. This book?
My One Night Stand With Cancer by Tania Katan.
Tania is a native Arizonian and in fact at one time lived right on my street (although about 10 years earlier). Her story is about her fight, not once but twice with breast cancer. The first time cancer struck she was only twenty-one years old. When she retells the visits to her doctors, the chemotherapy, the losing of her hair she tells it as if it were an anecdote or punch-line to a hilarious joke. I, myself, don't think I could have ever been strong enough to laugh such a scary thing right in the face like she did, and twice!! As you can gather, I have much admiration for Tania, so you can understand why this morning after receiving an email requesting I make cupcakes for a photo shoot, this Sunday for Tania I did quite an embarrassing jig in front of my dogs. I am giddy, giddy!! Tania will be doing a one person performance called Saving Tania's Privates In Phoenix from September 16th thru October 10th. If you live in the valley I suggest you check it out and bring some tissues because tears of laughter will be impossible to avoid.

The World is a Beautiful Place
I am so overwhelmed with the generosity and kindness from complete st angers who attended our Vegan Bake sale yesterday. We earned 976 dollars for the Raven House and my heart is filled with pride knowing how many gracious people live in Arizona. I made new friends, had great conversations and brought the smile to the face of a little girl with both celiacs and a soy allergy, she was able to enjoy a gluten free coconut brownie that I made and that just reaffirmed why I want to open a bakery. I want to provide cruelty free goodies to everyone, this includes people with allergies and issues with certain foods. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, made wonderful treat, purchased these wonderful treat and spread the word. There was a lot of networking going down for this bake sale and word of mouth made all of this possible. OK, enough of this, bring on the photos!

these are just a few items I made, to see more check out my flickr
the donated goodies from a few awesome others, this is not all of the photos, but I didn't want to inundate everyone with photos of yummy goodness

Coffee, Cookies and Crafts
On April 24th I will be giving out yummy samples of my cupcakes and other treats at the Coffee, Cookies and Crafts event in Phoenix at Bragg's Pie House. There will be an awesome set up of coffee and sugary goodness to fuel the fun to be had at the crafting sections. There will be a craft swap (so bring in materials you may not need, want or be using to trade with others) a kids section and the Lost Boys of Phoenix will be there selling their clay cows to benefit the Lost Boy Foundation. Also the Mutant Pinata show will still be on display and if you haven't seen it yet, you need to!

Baby Shower
Today I got up very early and started to prepare for a baby shower taking place this evening. The mother to be is an adorable girl (and when I say girl, I mean full grown woman) named Jen who is just overjoyed to be having her child. The theme of her shower is all things she has been craving during her pregnancy. I imagine there will be a wide array of bizarre goodies at her house this evening. She recently attended an event that I had baked for and fell head over heels for my mini cupcakes and now she will have six dozen to enjoy all to herself, or with her guests if she so chooses to. The flavors she wanted were chocolate with chocolate frosting and a yummy little cherry in the center, vanilla with oreo cookie frosting, and lemon with lemon frosting and fresh fruit. Good choices Jen! I hope you enjoy them.

Last Week in Photos
Went for a wonderful bike ride with Bonnie.
Bonnie!
We ate at In Season Deli.
I made Indian food,
baked cupcakes for a taste test for farmers market,
Timmy made lasagna,
I made Chai Scones.
Timmy, Tim, Bonnie and I ate dinner at Fresh Mint.
Dessert of Banana Fritters and Mango Tapioca.
Yum, Kabobs!
Boys get the bill and girls get weird alien toys.
Tim played with his food!
That was pretty much it besides working, baking a blueberry coffee cake, meeting Timmy's family from Michigan, getting my hair done pretty by Shaya, hanging out with Dan and Melissa, making a yummy salad from Thrive and finally watching the new Terminator movie. My week was awesome, how was yours?
